Designed for the experienced R.N. with superior peripheral venipuncture skills, this course addresses relevant Anatomy & Physiology, patient assessment for device selection, legal & regulatory issues, indications & contraindications for PICCs and Midlines, complications, catheter care & maintenance, and catheter insertion & securement techniques. This program encompasses the latest techniques for insertion, as well as incorporating up-to-the minute standards and infection control guidelines from IHI, CDC, SHEA, and INS. Taught by internationally-renowned faculty, this course includes a hands-on, precepted, laboratory practicum inserting a PICC or Midline on an anatomical model. A certificate of attendance will be issued.
This one-day basic skills course is aimed at the nurse with little or no previous I.V. Therapy experience. Topics include Anatomy & Physiology of the vascular system, a review of fluid & electrolyte concepts, infection control, legal & regulatory issues, patient assessment, care and maintenance of the I.V. site and infusion system, infection control, common complications, and safe administration of solutions & medications. A hands-on, precepted, laboratory practicum on an anatomical model with return veni-puncture skills demonstration is included and required of all participants. A certificate of attendance will be issued.
